Latest research report by Mc Kinsey & Company estimates that healthcare sector in the Persian Gulf countries will reach US$60 billion in 2025, up from US$12 billion today. No other region in the world faces such a rapid growth. Treatment demand alone is expected to grow 240% in the next 20 years.
This will create new opportunities for healthcare related ICT solutions and services. In particular the report cites IT systems that report clinical quality and financial data at the procedure, department and institutional levels creating transparency for decision makers on current performance and areas of improvement. Also clinical vertical software applications that address specific areas such as diabetes, heart diseases, remote monitoring and cancer screenings are in great demand.

Nearshoring to CEE – Major opportunity for software companies. May 13, 2009

CEE is about to emerge a major player in the international software business. Budapest already is a major Telecom R&D location with strong presence of Nokia, NSN and Ericsson. Moreover, Sofia, Belgrade, Bucharest among smaller centers are constantly investing more and to attact ICT talent and -companies to the cities.
This is an opportunity that really should be looked at and analysed. Below you will find my short presentation on the markets and the opportunities. Comments very much welcome!
Labour issues in Hungary (& in CSE) March 19, 2009

Finnagora www.finnagora.hu organised a good & really interactive seminar on Hungarian-Finnish Vocational Training. I was asked to give a presnetation on the topic from a “foreign investor point of view”. So I summerized the last 2 years learning from subcontracting & investment location studies. I have also conatcted some Finnish businessmen to get their views on the regional competitiveness on labour!
The main outcomes I would like to share are the followings:
- Still the unique & more complex manufacturing and coding demand could utilise the regional resources, the mass ones of course going to China & India
- Even the educational systems in trouble in CSE – underfinanced operations, image of teachers and bad reputation of “productive” jobs such welders, CNC-turner, still the regional work force even in Slovekia & Hungary is still commited to work and innovative & cheaper than in Scandinavia!
- Enterpreneurship is still not part of this “youngsters” thinking & even they are not flexible to find job even within the country!
- The participations of companies with financial support or even involvment of “future” educational needs are weak. Just in Hungary the whole centralised regional educational centers were established in 2006, forcing private & public sector to work on & develope educational systems (programs) for the future needs of labour market! – with strong EU subsidies!

Better way to understand the current situation in the financial crisies if we collect the ”facts & feelings” from the field. That is why, we with some collegues conducted a survey as follows
- The covered sectors were: Construction, Logistics & Machinery sector
- The geographical coverage was Central and Southeast Europe: Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria & Turkey
- Heads of relevant associations and three major companies were contacted
- Methodology was a phone-based survey
- Around 100 managers & association experts were contacted
- Conducted in February 2009.
- Idea is to repeat in six moths!
Special note: the survey was not built on representative primary research approach , it just gave some “feelings” & summarize some ”subjective thoughts” from market players` point of views.
Some main findings:
